BIOGRAPHY AND BACKGROUND
Gabz is a visual artist based in Toulouse and currently living in Marseille for his studies (DSAA Design Espace-Evenement at the ESDM). He draws inspiration from the Queercore and Punk movements and provokes and challenges to disrupt representations and express a anger that is too often stifled.
"I want to show and represent things that were missing for me during my adolescence". By creating patterns and reproducible media, he wants to spread representations of bodies, experiences, and stories of queer people as much as possible.
Born on January 8, 1999 in Toulouse, Gabriel was drawn to art in a plastic form at a young age. During his adolescence, he devoted himself mainly to music but never stopped drawing. His higher education in art and design strengthened his plastic practice and allowed him to experiment with various techniques, in particular linocut, which became one of his preferred media. But also object diversion, collage, automatic drawing, illustration, or sticker creation.
He participated as an exhibiting artist in the edition of Dur.e.s à Queer 2.0 at the public gallery of the Musée des Abattoirs in Toulouse from June 10 to August 29, 2021, following his response to the call for artists published on the social networks of the Contrast association. He exhibits, among other things, his series of linocuts "Trans Intimacies," in which he makes intimate moments of trans people visible and anchors them in the ordinary.
He is contacted again by the association to participate in a second exhibition from November 15 to 27, 2021: the QR Cult exhibition at the EDL space in Toulouse. As the TDoR (Trans Day of Remembrance) takes place that week, it inspires him to create a cathartic tribute work: "200 617 hours."
Just after launching his self-employment, Gabriel had the opportunity to exhibit his large-format work "SOPHIE" at the electronic music festival "Girls Don't Cry Festival" in Toulouse (from November 24 to 27, 2022) and to have a stand to offer his work for sale.
During his studies in DNMADE, mention of event design, he carried out internships in exhibition assembly.
In 2020, he thus had the opportunity to work on the exhibition Even the rocks reach out to kiss you under the direction of Julie Crenn, at Antre-Peaux in the Transpalette in Bourges.
In 2021, he helped his friend Marine Metadjer (@sexymud), a ceramic artist, to set up her exhibition at the Télégraphe in Toulon. He took part in the creation of the media and the place of the immersive exhibition.
Apart from his plastic practice, Gabriel continues to occasionally make music, sometimes in response to orders. For example, he composed the opening credits of the Web Series DRAMA QUEER directed by Tadeo Escalante in 2021.
